Hi,

When I ping the domain controller from a client machine, it only
pings by typing the ip address but does not ping while resloving the
domain controller name.

Also, when I do an 'nslookup' i get a response saying ' Can't find
server name for address '.'.'.' What do you suppose the problem is?

I think this is why I can't apply policies to the workstations.

Please advise. best Regards!
Rob

This sounds like a DNS problem. With active directory you need a DNS server
running on a domain controller and all computers on the network including
domain controllers using this DNS server. Are you using a router for DHCP?
What DNS server are your workstations pointing to? If you could give us the
IP of your domain controller and the results of ipconfig /all from a
workstation it would help in the diagnosis.
