Here is my problem:

While the splash screen is still displayed (the one with the little
blue bar), the computer will just shut itself off, as if I have pressed
the power button. I tried to boot into safe mode, and the same thing
happens. Last known good configuration was unsuccessful. I attempted
to boot from the XP CD in order to repair the installation, but I was
unable to proceed past the ACPI Plug & Play driver (i beleive that was
the last one I saw).

I am hesitant to keep trying things becuase the last time my computer
would shut itself down like this, I ended up frying my power supply.
As I just installed the new 500w replacement today, I am pretty
confident that this is not a power supply issue.

From reading around online, I have concluded that it could be one of a
few things:
- malfunctioning hardware (unlikely as everything is brand new)
- overheating (three fans in the case plus the CPU fan, all running and
dust free)
- agp400.sys (i would like to be able to disable this if I could get
that far into the boot process)

I first noticed this problem after I flashed my BIOS to the latest
version. At the same time I restarted from that, I am sure windows
update was asking for a reset as well. I am unsure of whether this is
a problem caused by the flashing of my BIOS or something that got
corrupted with the Windows Update download.

My system is as follows:
AOpen i915Pa-E mobo
P4 630 with stock fan and heatsink
2x512MB PC3200 SDRAM (dual channel enabled)
GeForce 6600 PCI-express video
WD 320GB SATA1.5 HDD
Benq EIDE DVD+/-RW with LightScribe
AOpen EIDE DVD+/-RW
PCI 3+1 Firewire card

Thoughts/tips/suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have been
amassing these pieces for a couple of months now, and I would really
just like to have the damn thing done with...

You've just installed a new power supply and you've flashed the BIOS,
I would hazzard a guess your problem lies there?
I don't understand what you mean by:
"At the same time I restarted from that, I am sure windows
update was asking for a reset as well."??????
