If you have the original and/or geniune XP discs It should not be a problem
to you. How do you BACK UP the product verification outside your hard disc -
eg if you replace your hard disc is the info on that or your BIOS ?

They explain how to change your product key without re-installing: Note:
you do have to modify the registry, and call MS support.

If you are getting the following error message when attempting to update:
Error Message: The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326904&Product=winxp
You'll have to purchase a new "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "Repair Install" using the new Windows XP Pro CD and Product
Key
that comes with it. (You cannot simply change the Product Key)

Some time ago, I bought a used computer, and now believe the licence key
to
be some kind of cracked version. I'd like to buy a genuine key and
validate
it properly etc, but if I do, is there any way of installing the key
without
completely reinstalling XP etc? I REALLY don't want to have to do that,
as I
have so much stuff on the machine.
Thanks
