Re: Permissions/Security Question

Hi Rock

Those three links are full of steps to fix permissions problems like I have or may have in the future. I appreciate having that information.

I am curious as to how the changes happened in the first place though!! I won't claim to be an expert in this field but I am comfortable with Windows Systems both client and server OS's. The machine which this happened to is a domain member on a server 2003 network. I have admin access to both the server and this machine. I am the only one that has admin access so I am confident that someone else did not make any changes that caused this to happen. I am also confident that I did not make the changes so I'm concerned about why I was suddenly being denied access. There have been no server updates or changes in setup in the last few weeks or client updates either for that matter!

Thanks Again
Jeff

Today I noticed some folders on my system that I could not open when clicking on them. I got "Access is Denied" when trying to open certain folders. Some folders were created just a week ago and I was using them to store some files in for a short time. I am able to right-click the problem folders to view properties and when clicking on "Security" I receive a message "You do not have permission to view or edit the current permission settings for (folder name), but you can take ownership or change auditing settings."

Most folders that this happens to are ones that I have made and are located directly under c:\ but there are some such as the I386 folder that denies me access too. I did a system restore back from over a week ago and I still have the problem. Does anyone have any explanation as to what caused this?

Thanks
Jeff
