So you got the XP CD then? You can do either two things to reinstall XP.
First you can go into the BIOS setup and select Boot From CD and put that
option in front of the HD boot order. Second you can run setup from the CD
from inside of Windows. If you are not opposed to reinstalling XP that would
be the practical and most convenient option for you. trying to diagnise and
run utlities with limited experience can be more tedious and time consuming
than to just reinstall XP. If you choose to reinstall XP completely then
make sure you reformat the drive.

Can you define "totally messed up"? When you reinstalled XP did you do a
complete format of the drive before applying XP?

I have a virus that has totally messed up my computer. I called Dell
and
had
them run a hardware check, and nothing is wrong with that. So the tech.
told
me I have a software issue maybe a virus and that I need to reinstall
Windows
XP from the CD that it came with I tried and it didnt work. Can someone
help
me with that?
Thanks a bunch,
Kristi
Allen,
I never got to reinstall the CD it is the one that came with the computer.
When I boot from the BIOS mode it says it cant boot from there using the
CD.
I dont know why. When I say messed up , I mean it freezes a lot if I stay
idle to long, and I have to turn it off to make it move. And it takes a
long
time to get to the home page once its on, after a cold boot state. I did
talk to Dell and they ran a hardware test and it turned out fine, so he
said
its the software. I probably downloaded something or email that had a
virus
in it. I cant even use internet explorer and my task manager doesnt work
either. I have to use Mozilla web browser. Do you think you can help?
.
