Hi
I had been meaning to check out FireFox for some time but kept putting
it off. After all, I wasn't unhappy with IE7 Beta. But I became
intrigued by this discussion (??), bit the bullet and have now garnered
a full 24 hours experience with FF.
After this short introductory period, my conclusion is that FF is
certainly zippier with many pages appearing up to twice as fast as with
IE7 (I use a Dell 4550 with 2.53 GHz/512 MB RAM).
Note, however, that I do use both FasterFox AND Google Web Accelerator
which must be contributing to the more sprightly performance.
However, I have to admit that I still don't fully understand the
security implications of the use of FF. As an example, I can download
and then run the Kaspersky free on-line virus scanner via IE7 with no
problems as long as I reduce the security rating for Internet Sites (to
be more lenient with regard to downloading Active-X controls) for the
2-3 minutes I need for the download.
However, with FireFox I'm stumped. Kaspersky just won't download and I
can't see how to manipulate the permitted Active-X controls. Indeed, it
doesn't even indicate why it has given up the ghost. It just downs
tools and sits there without a word of explanation. But, maybe I just
need some more time.
Nevertheless, on an overall performace basis I'm not in a rush to get
back to IE7.
Paul
