Hi everyone,
I am trying to install a Trust 56K v92 external serial modem to a Dell
Optiplex 170L PC running XP Pro.
I am able to install the modem fine but when I query (under the Modem
Properties/diagnostic) the modem it keep poping up the following
message;
"The modem failed to respond. Make sure it is properly connected and
turned o. If it is an internal modem or is connected, verify that the
interrupt for the port is properly set".
Unfortunately there is no Interrrupt or IRQ information available
under the Modem properties. I have changed the Com 1 Interrupt and
IRQ for all 4 (Basic Conf 0000, 0001,0002,0003, 0004) configuration
and that did not made any difference either. I have also removed and
re-installed the modem a few times and that did not resolve the
problem either.
Notice the message said: "If it is an INTERNAL modem..." Don't jack with the
IRQs or anything else regarding the serial ports.
Do the modem's lights flicker when you try to access it? If not, the problem
lies within the computer (serial port dead or not activated). If the lights
do flicker, the problem exists in the modem itself.
Replace whatever mouse you're using with an old-fashioned serial mouse. Does
the mouse work? If so, the serial port's okay.
