Is there any way to edit the Installation History? I show 3 failed attempts
to install that update before I manually installed it.
I'd like to clean up the listing by deleting those failed install entries if
it's possible.

Windows Update recognizes the installation of the update.
But that has nothing to do with the Windows Update history since Windows
Update does not read the history..
The Windows Update history does not show the manual update because the
manual update was not a Windows Update event.
You seem to think the Installation History should show all updates, but it
does not because it is not intended to show updates installed without
going through Windows Update.

Nothing is wrong.
What you describe is normal and functioning properly.

Thank you for the swift response. But all I can say is the system should
show
it. If it doesn't then the system is wrong and should be corrected by
Microsoft. Windows Update ought to recognise the download even if it
doesn't.
In any event, it does recognise the download, because I am now informed
by WU
that there are zero matters to download.

You manually downloaded and installed the update, Windows Update was not
involved.
Since Windows Update was not involved, the update will not be recorded
in
the Windows Update history.
