Hmmm... I don't think mine was related to an auto update (although it very
well could have been)... My last 2 updates had to do with the .net
framework, then the only other one before that was Jan. 18th... and this
problem cropped up some time over this last weekend I believe. So, I'm not
sure on that.

Let me say I DID get the problem fixed... sort of...

I created a new account "Test" and then it changed back. But I didn't want
an account called Test on my login window, so to me, this wasn't a good
solution, especially when I didn't have to have an account like that before
to get it to show the welcome screen. So, I tried hiding the account
through various methods. Any time I hid it (changed the account type, put
an entry in the registry...) it would take the account off the Welcome
screen, but then the password protection would revert on the screen saver
again.
I eventually tried out the hand TweakUI from power toys, and again, when I
unchecked Test from the show on welcome screen, it reverted.
But then I noticed something... in the TweakUI section for displaying names
on the welcome screen, it had the "ASPNET" account name unchecked (hidden).
So, I checked show ASPNET on Welcome screen, hit Winkey L and it didn't show
it... It was only showing my account like I wanted it to, so I pulled up the
screen saver properties box, and BINGO! I had the Show Welcome screen
option back, and still had only my account on the welcome screen! Yes!

So... to some it up, basically I used TweakUI to check Show ASPNET on
Welcome screen (was unchecked when I opened up TweakUI), and although
windows still won't show ASPNET on the welcome screen (what I wanted), it
still left the welcome screen option on the screen saver properties dialog.

I'm still not sure what the root cause of this problem was and why it just
decided how it would work one day, but I've got it back to how I want it
basically. It could've been an update, maybe not... no idea unless MS says
something about it or corrects it in a future update. I sort of feel it may
not of been an update though because I'd think there would be a TON of
people out there with the same problem... and maybe there are, they just
haven't said anything. Or I guess it could've been an update not working
correctly with other software I have installed... but that seems far fetched
since this is all related to the Welcome Screen / Screen Saver Properties
Dialog....

Your reply says the "Guest" account is not counted as a more then 1 user.
So when I get a chance this evening I'll try creating another account and
see if that helps.

I'm not sure why it would change like that all of the sudden though since
I haven't done anything different and never had other acocunts on the PC
before.

At this point I'll try anything though, and I'll post back once I try it.

These accounts do *NOT* count as more than one user...

Selecting the On Resume, password protect check box will lock your

This is on a Windows XP Home w/ SP2 system.

Basically as the subject line states, the option in the screen saver
tab
of display properties that used to say "on resume, display welcome
screen" now reads "on resume, paddword protect". And now, instead of
showing the welcome screen when the screen save goes off, it is showing
the computer locked box where you can type a username and password in.
If I press Winkey + L, or durring start up and shut down it still shows
the welcome screen.

I have changed absolutely nothing on the system. It simply started
doing this just the other day.
In the user accounts control panel the use welcome screen, and fast
user
switching are still enabled, just as they have always been.

I have tried some registry tweaks I found online that said would
restore
the on resume display welcome screen option, but all they did was
disable the on resume password protect option (greyed it out), and it
did not change it back to the welcome screen option. I removed the
entries that the tweaks placed in the registry.

I have tried disabling and enableing the fast user switching and
welcome
screen options and neither changed anything. I have tried enabling
another user account so it was more then just my 1 account on the
welcome screen (per a suggestion I read else where), but that to didn't
change anything.

I am at a loss and haven't found anything of any help in the MS KB.

Does anyone have any ideas?
