My computer will not go past the boot from cd page. It freezes there. Isthe
there anything I can do or do I have to run the recovery cd. If that is
case, could you direct me to where I can get the instructions for that. I
misplaced the ones that I had. Thanks for any help.
The last thing you see is the "press any key to boot from CD" line?
If that's the case, the recovery CD may not help at all. If it's hanging
at this point, the system may not be aware that the hard disk has any
contents at all.
This could be due to a number of things, from drive controller failure to
drive failure to loose cable.
If you wait long enough, up to five minutes or more (15 would be too long)
you may see some sort of error message.
If the system has a floppy drive, get a boot floppy from anywhere. Set the
BIOS boot sequence to ignore the hard disk (temporarily), and set it to boot
from CD then floppy. After seeing if the results are different, switch
the sequence to boot from floppy first.
If you can, physically disconnect the hard disk. If the problem
persists, it may have nothing to do with the hard disk itself (though the
hard disk contents may - or may not - be damaged now). While you have the
drive out, back up any valued data to another system.
