Folder disply options never hold !

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

In Windows Explorer, drop-down Tools | Folder options | View tab

I've got "Remember each folders view setting's" ticked but, this NEVER seems
to happen.
I have no tick in "Do not cache thumbnails"

I prefer the majority of directories to display their contents, (in the
right hand pane), as "Details" / single line - if you like, so that I can
see a sensible file list instead of stupid great big sub-directory icons. I
have a J:\photos folder on drive J:\ with sub-directories labelled with
month and year, and each one of those contains lots of sub-directories
labelled with dates such as 09022006, (...never been able to shake the 8.3
habit !), and every time I go to that drive and spend any time rummaging in
there, I have to set EVERY directory yet again to display thumbnails. Am I
missing something obvious ?

The annoying part is that after rummaging around on J:\ ,other drives,
instead of the "Details" single line type file listing as when last they
were accessed show the HUGE folder icons again. ....years old problem this
is !!! ...this is turning into "Yoda" grammar !!

....any ideas gratefully welcomed.

regards, Richard
