You do not mention if you tried my suggestions.
"Some sites will only work with the Microsoft version of Java, the Java
Virtual Machine. Remove Sun's Java, Google for "Java Virtual Machine" and
download the version for XP, then install it and see if it works."

I have restored my Security Zone settings.
MS Java VM is still installed, but 2 out of the 3 Add-in were not
enabled - this I have now done.
In the Add/Remove programs I had 'J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4'
and 'J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6' - I removed the Update 4.
In the Downloaded Program Files, I had 'Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0' 3
times but all with 'Installed' beside them. I have deleted two instances.
I rely on the XP firewall capabilities but I do have Norton Systemworks
installed but I don't think this has any effect.
The bad news is that with all your efforts it still comes up with the same
'Sorry you need a Java-enabled browser for the........"

Do not lower your Security Zone settings to accommodate Java. Have
you checked to see if the MS Java VM is still installed ? It appears in
the Internet Options, Advanced (TAB). It sounds like the Add-In is
installed, but not properly enabled. Also, have many versions of Sun
Java are installed on your PC (Add/Remove Programs). You should
also check C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files and see if the
Java instances have the Status field shown as "Damaged" and not the
expected "Installed". Finally, do you use a 3rd-Party Firewall that may
have a rule for "Blocking" Java enabled ?

Temporarily I have set my security levels to low for everything.
In IE, when trying to include my required sites to 'Trusted Sites' it
tells me that they must be prefixed https:// however the sites will not
respond to this.
But i'm still getting "Sorry you need a Java-enabled browser for
the........"
I'm running out of ideas!

What browser are you using?
If IE, what are your security settings on the Internet zone, etc? Have
you tried adding the sites you like to your trusted sites and setting
the security therein to 'low' ?
