hi allen, thank you for your help...
here is more info..
one of the 3 computers belongs to the manager. they are on a network,
although the other 2 pcs cannot see the managers computer.
- it's not that much data at all, much less than 6 Gb. I want to start
backuping now in a weekly basis.
-yes, I'm not going to backup the soft, but just the important files of
the
payroll software.
now, I'm not very comfortable with the cd or dvd thing as it has to be the
easiest way to do it and I don't trust those people on inserting a cd and
burn the info there. they are like 65 year-old ladies that know nothing
about
computers. I know that to put all the eggs in the same basket is not very
usefull, but I can go there and burn that info in a cd myself, may be once
a
month.... what do you think about it?

Ever heard the term "Don't put all your eggs in one basket"? It doesn't
make
sense to backup the Z drive to the Z drive. What are you accomplishing
here?
Nothing but an extra copy of the z drive. Need more info.
1. Are you on a network or work from a Workgroup?
2. How much data are we talking here?
3. How far back and how often are you looking to archieve your backups?
4. For payroll software I'm sure you do not have to backup the program
just
the data files. you need to know what and where those data files are.
5. If your talking less than 6 GB I would probably do it to a DVD once a
week. If you have a DVD -RW you can overwrite the pre-existing data.

hi... I have a silly question and I would appreciate very much your
help.
I have three computers in an office and an external hard drive that
they
all
see (Z drive). they share the documents on the Z drive. I need to back
up
that Z drive and also some documents that they may have in "my
documents"
folder in each of the computers. As far as I know, I can do that with
the
winXP backup utility, but where is it better to back it up? I want to
do
it
weekly, so I don't really want to burn it to a cd, as I don't want to
have
millions of backup cds....
can I tell that utility to back up everything in the same Z drive?
Also, I
know that one of the computers has a payroll software installed. How do
I
back up those files?? is that possible?
If I'm able to back it up in the Z drive, is it possible afterwards to,
once
a moth, burn that Z drive information to a cd and have the info there
as
well?
ok, sorry for my beginners question and thank you very much for your
help
in
advance.
