I'm looking for another laptop, so I went to a used computer show in
Boston yesterday.
There were a lot of laptops there, BUT I noticed from ALL vendors....
if they had more than 1 of a model ... say a Dell Latitude 640 ... when I
check system properties and compared: they all had the same ID info:
"Xp Pro 2002 SP2
Registered to:
xyz
12345-OEM-123456789 " (or whatever the info was - the point is that I laid
them side by side and the license was the same).
I'm assuming that they have a Dell Latitude 640 image and they load it
onto all of their PC's prior to sale.
The laptops did NOT come with any original CD's, so I didn't buy any PC
(and was a bit ticked off to waste my time and $21 parking and admission).
I'm guessing that if I ever needed to certify the PC that I wouldn't be
able to since someone else would have already done so from THEIR PC (one
of the previous sales).
They were decent deals ($449), but I passed - Was I right or wrong ?
.
