Re: Re:slow re-boot after installing slave hard drive:1/27/2006

Knotsmart, Bootvis is more suitable for software developers than the
ordinary man in the street.

By simply inserting a second hard drive how did you reset the BIOS boot
options? Why would you be in the BIOS in the first place? The BIOS is
usually set-up to automatically detect the hard drive, so you wouldn't need
to make any changes. It is simply a matter of changing the jumpers on the
second hard drive to either slave or cable connect.

What you have actually done now is made your first hard drive the first boot
option, so what happens if you want to re-install Windows XP? You have to
reset the boot order again so that the CD-ROM is the first boot option,
otherwise, when you insert the XP CD or your PC manufacturer's recovery disk
and reboot the CD will not be recognised.

I have two hard drives on my system and can't say i've noticed slow boot up.
My system is set to boot as follows:

Boot option 1 = CD-ROM
Boot Option 2 = Floppy
Boot option 3 = Hard Disk 0

Slow boot up can also be attributed to the amount of programs that are
started at the same time as windows, in particular anti virus applications
and such like. One of my main bug bears is my HP printer/scanner/copier.
That takes a good 20 seconds just to load the icon in the system tray!
