Resolving driver problems without an error report pin pointing the driver
is always going to be difficult. There are various ways the task can be
tackled but some need technical interpretation skills most of us do not
have.

I was hopeful that unsigned drivers might shorten the list for you but that
was
not to be.

My system was rebuilt early in December 2005 by replacing the motherboard,
memory, power supply, CD drive and one of two hard drives. There remain
components from my earlier circa 2000 computer. All peripherals, save for
a colour printer, are from the earlier system but all are no older than
2000.
I have systematically replaced peripherals over the years. I suspect that
were I to replace my HP Scanjet 4300C and my Norton Winfax Pro 10
software I might be down to two unsigned drivers.

It can be helpful to install software to name precisely the hardware on
your system. You need this information when looking for third party drivers.
I ignore offers of drivers from the "driver web sites" and always go for
manufacturers sites.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your
computer:

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight required
text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is fine for
posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages
longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.
