You can try shutting off AVG's certification of incoming and outgoing email.
However if the person who is emailing you has AVG and has certify outgoing
turned on, you will get this paperclip. From what I understand from a
previous search, it only occurs on XP SP2.

AVG does this to out going mail so may do it to incoming to. It's its
message at the bottom. It is an attachment of sorts.
