I've been through that hoop. I don't. The blazefind issue is widely documented and breaks safe mode as well.
The winlogon registry key has the correct entry.
Thanks anyway but it is something else.

I have an awkward problem with my laptop (A dell Inspiron 8200).
The other day I installed Winamp and updated the driver for the Alps touchpad and following the reboot windows stopped letting me login. What happens is this: I get to the welcome screen and login as usual then following entry of the Username and password the Logging off screen appears with the logging off music and I am returned to the welcome screen.
Now I have found the same symptoms attributed to the effect of removing some spyware and the corruption of the userinit registry entry but in this case it doesn't seem to be the problem. Note: I am able to login to safe mode (which is how I am using the pc at the moment).
I have attempted a repair installation of windows which went fine but unfortunately didn't fix the problem, I have added a new user (didn't fix it either) I have removed the app I had installed (Winamp) and I have replaced the Alps touchpad driver with the latest version (I haven't, however gone back to the original). I have performed a system restore to a point prior to the problem. I have also disabled apps that run on login (except userinit and explorer.exe as I figured they were kind of essential) My machine had been free of viruses and spyware to the best of my knowledge.
So I am at the point of reformatting the HD and reinstalling everything which I I'd frankly rather not do. Does anyone have any useful suggestions as to what else I could attempt before doing this?
Thanks in advance
Russell Wyatt
