I installed a program over the internet and it put an icon on the task bar (on the right side) and when I either right or left click it there is no option to get ride of it. I happens only to my login and comes up at boot time. There is not a program installed that relates to it per add/remove programs. So, I want to delete it from the start up scripts, wherever they are. What advice do you have for me to clear it from my computer?
Thanks, G
Check the options in the program you installed for one to not have it show in the task bar.
If that doesn't work the next step is to remove any entries you don't want from the two startup folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
For anything else uncheck their entries in the startup tab of msconfig: Start | Run | Msconfig | Ok
Another option is to remove the reference to them from one of these keys in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
Make sure you have a backup of the registry using a program like ERUNT before making any changes to the registry.
