You might want to try the following:
Go to Control Panel and double click on User Accounts.
Click on the icon for the account you setup with your .NET
Passport.
In the left hand column, click on "Manage my network
passwords".
In the "Stored User Names and Passwords" box, click on your
Passport account to highlight it.
Hit the Remove button.
Go back to Windows Messenger and sign on with their .NET
Passport.
