I'm with Dixonian. If booting in Safe Mode/VGA does not help, I'd try
again after disconnecting every non-essential (i.e. excluding mouse and
keyboard) piece of hardware. Also, your BIOS may have some options for
enabling/disabling some on-board hardware, and it may be useful to
fiddle with these.
