I read your post COMPLETELY.

Kindly pay me the same courtesy.

I did not say, "Go to your Start button on your desktop."

I said, "either use the "ON/OFF" switch

(that ACTUAL button on the front of / back of your computer, that cuts
off the electricity.

OR

LITERALLY PRESS the ACTUAL "reset SWITCH" on the front of the
computer.

In other words, with NO HELP from Widows, your keyboard, or your
mouse...

CUT POWER TO YOUR COMPUTER ABRUPTLY.

The only exception would be if you can warm boot with Control Alt
Delete.

Normally, if you are having system problems (sounds like you are),
your Control Alt Delete warm boot won't work.

I don't care if you UNPLUG THE DAMN computer from the wall..

TURN IT OFF! ( I have unplugged my computer 100 times. If you're that
hung up, unplugging it will be the LEAST of your issues.)

Once the computer is OFF. That is, screen black. NO LIGHTS on the
computer WHATEVER,

turn the computer on.

Allow it to cycle through until you get to the desktop. This may take
several minutes.

Once you get to the desktop-- if you do-- be sure you are backed up.

THEN,

Turn off the computer again. CUT THE POWER. Pull the cord out of the
wall.

Whatever!

Just turn the MACHINE OFF.

Let it start up again and go to the Desktop.

If you can get the computer to cycle through twice and give you the
Desktop, it should be ok.

If not, then you need to run something like (preferably) Norton 2003
System Diagnostics, Registry Cleaner, XP's diagnostics, etc.

If your system does NOT cycle through to the Desktop, turn it off the
3rd / 2nd ? time, and when you turn it on, put your Windows XP disk
in.

try a fresh install without formatting.

If the system won't allow you to do that, you will have to
format/fdisk, and do a fresh install.
