Other than fans and a few gears for removable media - the hard drive is
practically your only visibly moving part.
Will it hurt - unlikely.. In fact - if it is "optimizing" the disk, it may
help your performance without you lifting a finger.

Over time - years, it might - but we are talking (unless there is some
underlying defect) seconds off of its life every few years.
