Certainly background processes are running.
Task Manager allows you to terminate almost all processes including the invisible ones running in the background.

Recently I noticed my DELL computer disk activity light is flashing on and off at a regular 2 second rate and the drive read noise is accompanying it. Do I have a software or hardware problem? I have scanned for viruses, adware, defragged, etc. using Norton Systemworks. It is sill "beating". Any ideas?
