Hi,
I bought a new PC from an online auction site and when I ran windows Update it said it failed the product validation so I am unable to download updates. My question is, if I go and buy a copy of XP Home now, do I need to reinstall XP or can I just somehow set it you use the new license key of the newly purchased XP?
Thanks for any help
When buying a used system it's best to format the drive(s) an start a new. You don't know what nasties are hiding there not to mention the illegal copy of XP you had. Backup your data, buy a version of XP and install it fresh, restore your data and reinstall program files.
