To prevent the system from automatically restarting:
Right click on My Computer > Properties >Advanced tab. >Settings button in the 'Startup and Recovery' section. Remove the checkmark from 'Automatically Restart' in 'System Failure' section.
Pay particular attention to these messages as they may provide clues to shutdown issues.
To repair install follow:- http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Hi i have a laptop running XP Pro, which when you switch on it will start windows and then reboot in a continual cycle.
This happens in either Normal or safe mode, so I suspect that the OS has become corrupted.
I created a windows 98 start up disk and can get to the C prompt and the machine stays on.
However before i do a reinstall, i need to get the data off the drive, which of course the user has not backed up. I have a usb pen drive, but of course that is not recognised if I use the boot up floppy.
Has anyone any ideas please?
Thanks
Alex
