You can rename the computer in control panel/system/computer name is that is what you mean?

No Ron, they are talking about renaming a user account and attendant folder structure, not changing the computer name.

I have renamed a user name. But even though the computer has the new

can I get it to update this too?

You can't really just rename a user account; the underlying files/folders will retain the original name. Make a new user account with a name you like (it will have to be at least a little bit different than the "renamed" one) and copy over your data to it. Here is a link explaining how:

You will need to log into the new user account once before you can copy
anything to it.
