My firewall is set to allow traffic through Thunderbird and I disabled theI am running windows xp sp2 and my husband has windows 2k. Yesterday we finally! got dsl installed. We are networked and both able to be online at the same time, but while he can download email, all I get is an error message "an error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server pop.xxx.xxx responded:" and that is it. I have tried everything I can possibly think of to fix this situation, but no luck. Any of you brains have any ideas for me?
What E-mail client software are you using? Have you set it up properly with the correct pop2 server name?
Sorry for the typo. I mean POP3, of course.
Yes, everything was working fine until the dsl was installed. I have checked and rechecked my settings - they are identical to the settings on my husband's computer. I am using Thunderbird 1.0, and he is using Netscape 7.1. But I also tried to get the email through Netscape and Outlook, and have the same problem. There is no error number.
How are your firewall and antivirus setup?
virus checker at one point with the same result.
Your IP when posting here points to sherbtel.net, AKA izoom.net (https://mail.izoom.net/login.php). Is the email account a name@xxxxxxxxxxxx account? Have you tried using name@xxxxxxxxx instead?
Are you getting the same error when trying to access with account (address) in Outlook? Post the complete error message.
If you bypass the network and connect directly to the modem (bypassing the router), does the problem persist?
gotten around to getting it set up yet. What I am trying to do is access my email
account provided by my dial-up isp which I have not yet cancelled. If I bypass the dsl
all together I have no trouble downloading the messages on dial-up,
but I can't download them when online through dsl. My husband's computer, however,
has no problem. Even bypassing the router and connecting directly to the dsl modem
I cannot get the messages.
When I try with Outlook Express the error message I get is
"The server responded with an error. Account: 'popmail.tds.net', Server: 'popmail.tds.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90"
Thanks for your attention
Liz
