Registering a program with the "Open With" dialog:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/openwithadd.htm
(Try registering Firefox.exe using this program)

Trying to set a specific program to open a specific extension. In this instance it's Firefox. Was working before but not now. I uninstalled Firefox to check out an issue I was having and reinstalled from scratch. I am trying to set Firefox as the default program to open .xpi files. If I right click on a .xpi file and select Open With, Choose Program then Browse and select Firefox.exe to use it does not get selected when I return to the main Open With dialog. If I go to Tools | File Types select .XPI file type and select Change I get the same problem. I cannot make Firefox the default App that opens an .XPI file type. I accidently selected Adobe Reader the first time I tried so I know I can at least set something.

Seems to me that something might be screwy with the way Firefox was installed and not fully registered.
