PDA hang registry in SP2

Hello,

I have a situation that I know others must be facing. I have tried this with
both a Dell Axim and a Blackberry the results are the same. Both of the PDAs
were on two different Win machines, so their spftware was not installed
concurrently on the same box.

First test bed:

Windows XP Pro SP2, clean install with only Office 2003, and Activesync 3.8.
Later I did try 4.1 with the same results. Outlook was using POP3 accounts.
WinXP's firewall off.

Second test bed:

Windows XP Pro SP2, clean install with only Office 2003, and the latest
version of the Blackberry sync software. Outlook was connected to an
Exchange server. WinXP's firewall off.

Both hang the registry when the user syncs the PDA then logs off. (Event ID
1517) I traced the probably to the DCOM server doing it. Now, I know that a
Hive Tool exist, but I do not want to use this to cover up the problem. I
can sort of understand if the Blackberry software did this, but Activesync
is from MS. So, what's the deal here. My initial thoughts are:

1. A security setting not getting set properly.

2. A gaping bug in SP2 that is being covered up by the Hive Tool.

Does anyone else have this problem with their PDA?

Thanks,

John
