Truthfully - for the intended audience - I almost go too far with Tip (13) -
most people should not dabble into the pagefile and such. I mention
defragmentation in as much as it should be for my intended audience - as
it's difference-making in performance is over-rated for most home users -
who will not get as fragmented opening their photos, reading their emails
and and dabbling in a few word documents while allowing their kids to use
the computer as they will get infected by spyware/adware (possibly because
of the kids. hah) Not to mention - it is the last thing you should do -
only after you have cleaned up and backed up.

"If things are running a bit sluggish and/or you have an older system
(1.5GHz or less and 256MB RAM or less) then you may want to look into
tweaking the performance by turning off some of the 'resource hogging'
Windows XP "prettifications"."
Which is true. If you have a system like the one I specified - you will
benefit pretty well from turning off the default look and feel of Windows
XP. You mention a 1.4-1.8GHz system (2/5's of my list) with 128MB video (I
never mention video specs - this is intended for those trying to maintain
their system properly - not necessarily gamers or grpahics people) and 512MB
memory (double what I list as my minimum for making the changes.) And if
you are going about making the assumption that most people have a system
like you suggest - you need to leave your neighborhood more. *smile* - they
do not. Yes - that is the most common (inexpensive) system sold today -
2.8GHz, 40-80GB HDD, 512MB+ RAM, integrated shared RAM video card.. But it
is certainly not the only game in town. The number of systems I still run
into that fall into the category I give is quite alarming - but people
ttreat their computers like their cars when you don't have money to go get a
new one.. If it is running - why trade it in?

You mustn't be around many of the machines like the one I described. *grin*

No worries - and thanks. I will keep trying. And thanks for the feedback!

Remember - we are not "MS Support" at all. We are "people helping people".
Just because I answer more Microsoft related questions does not mean I do
not answer others as well - and I definitely do not work for Microsoft. =)
