RE: Can't Download MS Updates...

Greetings.

My thanx to both PA Bear and Yazinki (I've no problem w/ your English).

Looks like the problem w/ the English is at my end. Neglected to mention that
I'm talking about some "Win 98" updates.

There are no bugs nor apparent problems w/ the OS. I know I have a poor line
and a lacking ISP. However, those were not my points. Now that you know this
has to do w/ Win 98, I think a quick re-read of my message will make those
points
clearer.

The main issue for me is that when the line drops out, there seems to be no
"resume download from the point where it terminated" feature at the Win 98
MS Update site. That is, when I go back on line, I am forced to atart the
entire download again from the beginning. This is neither efficient nor very
logical.

For non-MS downloads, the line drop out is not a problem because for those
types of downloads I have a 'Download Manager" (GetRight) which automatically
takes over the download at the start and it also automatically "resumes" any
download from the point it broke off, when I re-connect to the net.

However, MS Update apparently does not permit a third party download manager
to take over it's own download function. I do not think that this is due to
a bug in
my system or OS. I am more inclined to think that it is due to a lack of a
"Resume"
function at the MS Update downloader. But then again, I'm no expert on the
subject and what I think doesn't really matter.

The only questions I really need an answer to are:

1. Does the Win 98 MS Updater/downloader have a "resume" function or not;
and
2. if not, then why not?

If the unqualified, proven answer to 1. is "yes" (it does), it would mean my
system is at fault, or, that MS Update won't permit a third party download
manager.

In this case I'd next be asking "why can't I use my own Download Manager to
handle the MS Update download"?

Then, whatever the answer to the above question, I'd need to find out what
it is
at my system that is preventing the "resume download" function.

Can anyone out there clear this up for me?

Appreciate,
--
Ted...
