Thank you for the reply. There is no Desaktop tab. The only tab is "General" tab. It is basically giving the properties of the desktop.html file. It has only a Certificates, OK, and Cancel buttons.
Going into Control Panel\Display does not help either. You only have "Screen Saver" and "Settings" tabs there and they don't change the desktop. Thanks again.

Hello. I have the boss' kid's computer sitting at my house while I (once again) try to clean it and get it working right. I can't just blow it away because the kid lost his Windows XP Pro disk. I only have one last problem to take care of. It had a message on the desktop that said that is computer was infected and needed cleaning. This was actually the desktop and not a pop up screen. You cannot change the desktop settings because when you right click it and click on Properties you just get a General Properties screen that shows an address: file://C:\\WINDOWS\desktop.html. Does anyone know how to change this back to the regular desktop settings? Thank you in advance.

Check the following: Right click on the Desktop and select Properties from the menu. Click on the Desktop tab of Display Properties. Click on the "Customize Desktop" button. Click on the Web page. Highlight any entry that looks suspicious and hit the Delete button. Remove the check mark from the box next to "Lock Desktop items".
Good luck
