VMWare, Simulating Lap Top system events.

This may not be the right NG to ask this question. If not please point
me in the right direction.
I have a number of DeskTop PCs testing some software, a service which
will run the whole time the PC is on.
Ultimately this software is most likely to be run on lap tops and there
are a number of situations I would like to simulate in a controlled
manner. Preferably on desktop pcs but if we need laptops so be it.
In short I'd like to simulate system events repeatedly over long
periods of testing to ensure everything behaves.
For instance:
Turning off the monitor, turning off hard disks, going into system
standby, running off battery, battery running out, running with power
connected/power cable plugged/un-plugged.
So, for example, what I'm looking for is an interface to allow me to
simulate/ reproduce in software the system changes that will occur when
the power cable is disconected/reconnected, say 200 times over 4 hours.
You can probably tell I'm on new ground here so any information would
be welcome. Both on new things that might occur to cause my software
problems and a way to simulate them. I thought WMware might be able to
do the job.
Also are there UK based companies that will do this kind of testing on
a wide range of OSs?
