Trying to validate WinXP... can any MVP reply?

I have a legit copy of WinXP, and successfully validated it several months
ago. Yesterday I tried a download from Microsoft, and had to validate
again.
Even though I was using IE, I got a message to the effect of, "...your
current browser won't work ...let's do this another way". But then when
"Genuine Microsoft Hypertext Application" comes up, it's blank. It seems I
can't re-validate, and hence I can't download from Microsoft.
(Please don't reply if you're only going to rant against Microsoft!)
Thanks for any help.
