Most likely you have inadvertantly moved crtical system files to the D:
drive.

The most straight forward fix is to boot to a Windows XP CD and perform a
repair install. If this means that you don't have one: "I don't have a
windows recovery CD"; then you need to buy one - OR maybe:

Try an XP boot disk:

Note - you need Ntdetect.com and Ntldr files from a machine running the same
Service Pack level as your machine. Also, the boot disk may not work if you
are missing critical system files other than Ntdetect.com and Ntldr - based
on your description, this seems likely to be the case.
