user's laptop unlocked itself?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

We had a strange situation come up today. One of my users locked his
laptop before going to a meeting. He had set Norton Antivirus to scan
the hard drive before locking the computer. He is absolutley sure that
he hit <Enter> and that the computer said it was locked before he left.

When he returned, the computer was unlocked (domain password protected)
and the applications had locked up.

There were other issues on the computer. He's running ZoneAlarm 6.x,
and the Security Event log kept saying that Windows Firewall had
detected a service that was listening for connections (yea, that's what
it does). I don't think that's related to the computer becoming
unlocked while he was away.

Right now I'm searching for a reason for his computer to become
unlocked in this way. We've already eliminated someone walking in and
using his password. For now.
