You don't need to buy anything else unless a conversion fails. There is a
built-in XP tool. Since you have already installed on the FAT32
partition, why change to NTFS ? Unless of course you absolutely need the
features provided by NTFS that FAT32 don't support. There will always be
the ongoing debate on which is better.

You may have a mis-understanding about FAT32 vs NTFS. In your OP, you
said you know 'that FAT32 can't read NTFS'. That statement means nothing
really. Neither FAT32 nor NTFS 'read' anything. The OS, in this case XP,
reads the drive. XP supports both FAT32 and NTFS, ergo, you can any
combination of format's on the same PC.

Just install the old drive in the PC as a slave and transfer the data.
You may have to 'enable' the old drive in Control Panel -> Comp
Management -> Disk Management.
