Yes, I did that. The delay is not coming from the DNS lookup, something is just stalling it within the network.
Why use XP? Because that's the OS that the Instantserver software runs on and it runs very well - well externally that is. Instantserver is an easy to use and administer program written on top of Apache.
The internal network used to run fine. Without any reason or explanation, it went to a crawl - but on as far as accessing the websites/email/FTP to the "server". Accessing shared folders and exchanging files that way is just as fast as ever.

What can be causing this problem? Any ideas? It's really puzzling that the performance is only an issue internal to my home, but not external - you'd think it would be just the opposite. BTW, I am not accessing the websites via local host - I am accessing them just like any website - www.myhost.com

Have you looked at the HOSTS file on your workstation and placed the ip address of your web server in there? That might speed access up as it would eliminate a DNS lookup.
A better question is why you'd choose to run a web server on XP when you say you have a Linux box on your LAN? A LAMP server would be far better as a web server than using a Windoze web server.
