floating IP address.

Hi,

I have an application that was written by another programmer sometime ago.
I was asked to have a look at it again to see if it might do what we need.

But the application need a "Floating IP address" and a "Floating subnet
mask".
How can I set-up a floating ip address? I don't even know what it is.

We have applications that connect to a server, (another one of our
applications).
I am guessing that the floating IP address is what they connect to,
"192.168.0.A" for example.
But the actual IP address of the server and the standby server is
"192.168.0.B" and "192.168.0.C"

So, how do I set-up a 'floating ip address', can it be done
programmatically?
