Hi Rod,
Which version of Adobe Reader you've installed? Also, an immediate workaround would be to enable "Disable PDF in browser" or similar option so that the Acrobat's add-on is not used.

When I go to a website and click to go to another page, sometimes all I get
is a red x in a small square. Why is that? What I wanted is to download a
.pdf file, but all I got is a red x in a square. I have Adobe Reader on my
computer, so I don't know why I am having this problem.
