Re: standby button grayed out

DasFische,

NTBackup is not installed with XP Home, but it's on the XP CD. Unless you
have an OEM CD. In that case read on.

HOW TO: Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home Edition
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;302894

[[If you are using a computer that an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)
provided with a pre-installed copy of Windows XP, the Valueadd and Support
folders may not exist on your hard disk or on the recovery CD-ROM that was
included with your computer.

This issue can occur because OEM computers that include a pre-installed copy
of Windows XP do not include a Windows XP CD-ROM, or the Valueadd and
Support folders. Instead, OEM computers typically include a restoration
CD-ROM, and this CD-ROM does not contain the Valueadd and Support folders.

Among others, some of the utilities in this folder are USMT Command line
components, NTBACKUP]]

> Question 2

Do you have the *latest* XP compatible video card drivers installed?

Open Power Options Properties...
Start | Run | Type: powercfg.cpl | OK |
Hibernate tab

If the Hibernate tab is unavailable, your computer does not support this
feature.

To put your computer into hibernation, you must have a computer
whose components and BIOS support this option.

I.e. the BIOS and video drivers.

Do you have an APM tab on Power Mangement?

[[If the Hibernate tab is unavailable, your computer does not support this
feature. Click the APM tab, click Enable Advanced Power Management
support, and then click Apply.

The APM tab is unavailable on ACPI–compliant computers. ACPI automatically
enables Advanced Power Management, which disables the APM tab.

If you are using Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Professional with
Fast User Switching turned on, the Shut Down menu will present the options
to Stand By, Turn Off, or Restart your computer. Hold down the Shift key,
and the Stand By button will change to Hibernate. ]]

This may be worth a shot...
Notebook has STANDBY button "greyed out":after Windows XP Home recovery.

When you click “Turn Off Computer” on the Start menu, the Hibernate button
does not appear in Windows XP Service Pack 2 or in Windows XP Tablet PC
