A few months ago I purchased a copy of XP Pro (my 3rd copy). When I installed it sometime later, it Activated normally. Since then the update has worked as expected. This wek the new Validation check decided it had an invalid Product Key and therefore it was not Validated and suggested that I contact the reseller ( I am awaiting further information from them). Why would the copy Activate, if indeed it was not a valid Product Key?
Because Validation, like Activation is not perfect, and MS's doesn't care that their paying customers get screwed over by these imperfections.
