Ungenuine to genuine

Hey guys...

I've bought a second hand computer two months ago, and it happens that it
was installed with a ungenuine version of Windows XP. I have bought a new
(and genuine!) version of Windows XP, and I would like to install it on this
computer.

The question is, can I make my ungenuine version genuine (using the new one
I bought) without losing my documents and files? I'm working on this
computer, so there are many important files here.

Hoping for quick answer,
Firqin
