Dial up connection & DSL

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I am a Verizon DSL customer. I require the "always dial my default
connection" button to be on, to get online. If I shut down, and latter boot
up and try to go online I get message,"we could not detect a connection to
the internet". I then go back and check the "always dial my default
connection" button I find that it is off. I turn it back on, and then I am
able to get back on internet. Why won't the "always dial my default
connection" button stay on??? Thanks
