Comp crash

It seems to me, any type of electronic equipment hates me. Everytime i get
something new, theres always a problem occuring before i get to actually use
it. -_-''. But after about of week of trying to fix my computer, im still
having problems. First, my cousin installed Windows Professional i think and
everything worked perfectly fine.. until i touched it. The sound didnt work..
and at this time i was in a different state because i got the comp for
cheaper from my cousin. Anyways, i brought the comp back home, and tried to
fix the sound problem. Couldnt do it, so i decided to reboot the whole damn
thing and switch to windows xp home edition. I used the cd that came with the
dell 2350 i have. And this current computer is custom.. so... i dont know is
that a bad thing?? Formatted blah blah the windows xp is on now, and the
sound still doesnt work... -_-... so ill just buy a soundcard later on
hopefully it works. Now... Another problem exists. Sometimes the computer
goes out to a blue screen out of no where when everything seems fine. But
most of the time, it happens when i start a video game up. Heres what comes
up:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen
appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup
utilities. Check you hard drive
configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for
hard drive corruption,
and then restart your computer.

I played Maplestory, and it blinks out to this blue screen in about 10
minutes prior to starting the game. It still happens when im doing nothing
either as i have said before.

I've ran a diagnostics tests on the memory or RAM whatever u call it with
mtinst, and it was fine on the standard tests, but den i did a extended test.
On the first p@ss it failed to complete some ranges. And i have no clue how
to fix it.

So, now im mad, irratated, and stuck. So if anyone would have any solutions
it would be nice, this is like the 3rd forum ive been on. I dont wanna waste
some 100 odd dollars to fix this. Maybe i just have to make some really
really intelligent friends ^_^. Anyways, if nobody has anything, im jsut
thinking of bringing it back to my cousin to start ALLLLL over again. thx
