Yes as rick said no need to run windows, just boot off the floppy or cdrom u
made from the memtest86 site.
Really to me tho it sounds like bad ram. If u have two sticks take one out
and see if the problem goes away. If not try it with the other stick.
When u use memtest it's best to only test one stick at a time. (for obvious
reasons)
