Any thoughts as to why an XP Pro SP 2 system would start to reboot itself? Input appreciated!
My daughter's system started to spontaneously reboot itself every once and a while recently. I opened the box and used compressed air to blow out any dust. It was not bad... not in a hot place. 1) We went into Control Panel and turned OFF "Reboot on error". 2) I checked the error codes and application error logs:
======= Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 8054ae34, parameter3 f74d9844, parameter4 00000000. At 9:04:53 PM, 6/12/05 ---------Note 3 successive app errors on 6/12/05 at 9:04:28

Also do some hardware diagnostics. Test the RAM with Memtest86+ and the windows memory diagnostic tool. Let the tests run for a significant period of time, such as overnight.
Memtest86+ http://www.memtest.org/
Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Test the drive with a utility from the drive manufacturer's web site. This will create a bootable floppy or CD from which the drive diagnostics are run.
