windows disappear after removing cursor

I've changed something somewhere along the line, and can't remember where to
go to change it back !! When I remove the cursor from a window, the window
disappears down into the taskbar, and I have to click to bring it back. This
is oftentimes very annoying, but I can't remember what I did to change this
setting. Please help.
