Yes, the CD isn't important. It's the product key that identifies
your license.

Not quite. You have to use a CD of the same type as yours: Home
vs Professional, Generic OEM vs Retail, Full vs Upgrade. The
wrong type won't work. Also if yours is an OEM version, it may
not be generic, but may be customized for your machine. In that
case, another one won't work either.
